Dr. Felisa Simon

After a hectic career as an academic research scientist, Dr. Simon returned to her roots as a classical oboist equally dedicated to performance and instruction. She is a graduate of the Interlochen Arts Academy and received her Bachelor of Music from Oberlin Conservatory of Music where she studied with the late James Caldwell. She has also completed additional graduate work at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music working with Jay Moore. She has performed in Latin America, Europe and throughout the US. She maintains a private studio and teaches oboe at Berkeley High School and Oakland School for the Arts. She is involved in the integration of arts and sciences and actively promotes "STEAM", that is engaging young people in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics. With her extensive background in science as well as the arts, she helps students realize their full potential, especially young women, to venture towards whatever direction they choose to pursue. As a recent east coast transplant, Dr. Simon actively plays with a number of local Bay Area groups that range from live opera theater to interactive shows with kids.
