OUR MISSION STATEMENT
Composing Together brings professional composers directly into classrooms to collaborate with youth in creating and performing their own musical compositions, empowering them with the knowledge that their ideas have meaning, value and the power to shape the future.
MY WORDS, MY MUSIC 2017
The "My Words, My Music" program combines music composition with original poetry. Audiences and artists collaborate to create a unique spoken word piece performed as a grand finale at the end of every performance. Available as both multi-visit school residencies and stand-alone concerts for all ages.
Here's a recent "My Words, My Music" poem:
The leaves were flying in the air,
making music in the park.
But one of the leaves didn’t feel like it.
He stayed on the ground
and said, “I can’t sing, I can’t fly.”
He asked his friends to help him,
but they can’t.
Then a man came and saw one leaf on the ground.
He gave him a spindle of golden dust.
