Composing Together brings professional composers directly into classrooms to collaborate with youth in creating and performing their own musical compositions, empowering them with the knowledge that their ideas have meaning, value and the power to shape the future.

Watch a recent performance

The program for 2017-2018 combines music composition with original poetry.  Participants and audiences collaborate with our composers and a guest poet to create poetry and music for a unique spoken word piece that is performed as a grand finale at the end of every performance and school residency.

Here's a recent poem:

The Leaves

The leaves were flying in the air,

making music in the park.

But one of the leaves didn’t feel like it.

He stayed on the ground

and said, “I can’t sing, I can’t fly.”

He asked his friends to help him,

but they can’t.

Then a man came and saw one leaf on the ground.

He gave him a spindle of golden dust.
